For the past 14 years, Steve Stanton has served the people of Largo, Florida as City Manager. By all accounts, he has done an outstanding job. Yet, the city fathers recently voted to fire him. Why? Because Stanton announced that he was undergoing gender-reassignment.
City Commissioner Mary Gray Black, who initiated the action, explained, “I do not feel he has the integrity, nor the trust, nor the respect, nor the confidence to continue as city manager of the city of Largo.” I’d say it is Black and the four other commissioners voting to fire Stanton (two voted against) who lack integrity, trust, respect and confidence.
Like most employees in the U.S., Stanton is subject to discharge “at-will”, meaning that the city could fire him for a good reason, a bad reason, or no reason at all. The City Commission could simply have terminated his contract without saying why. Instead, they’ve gone out of their way to make clear that their decision is rooted in anti-trans animus.
Stanton evidently planning to sue. In my view, state and federal laws against gender discrimination ought to apply in cases like this. However, the chances that a Florida court will agree are slim to none (and Slim’s left the state). Still, I agree with a former student of mine (who has set up a web site in support of Stanton) that “this is worth a fight”. It may not save Stanton’s job; but at least it will bring some attention to the problem of anti-trans discrimination.

1, in approximately, 12,000 birth anomalies around the world, turn out to be transgender based.
The University of Southern California, has, & still is, conducting research concerning the cause & effect of Transgenderism.
Norway, another EPA Center for the research of Transsexuality, have been studying the hormonal/ hypothalamus interconnectivity, regarding the direct correlation of congruity, between ones physical gender, to that of the brains interpretation.
What I find to be Hypocritically Pious, & purposely discriminating, under the auspices of the [Catholic] Church, is the common standard, to denounce scientific research, concerning the known, & proven facts, for cause & effect, of numerous Human Anomalies in Nature, that have occurred, since the beginning of time.
When those who stand in reverence, dismissing the factual, 21st Century, scientifically acquired data, documenting such changes in the Human Genome, & replace it with text, and/or versus from books that are equivalent to 5,000 years, of man-ipulated mythology, & hearsay, is nothing more, than a controlling, unprogressive hypocritical agenda.
Anyone, who preys upon people’s fear and prejudices, utilizing them as a political tool, for a discriminatory agenda, abandoning any humanistic approach toward Diversity Sensitivity, Understanding, & the Respect of others, apparently lack common sense, and embrace, a dictatorial, arrogant, & virulent mentality.
In order to establish a reality, for Peace, Harmony, & Unequivocal Equality, for Diversity acceptance, one must be willing to become more open minded, and simply, adopt a policy of “Live & Let Live.”
When a religious belief, becomes the agenda for unprogressive proselytizers, attempting to force their convictions on non-followers, without for one moment, taking into consideration, that what may be comforting for them, might not be seen as comforting, or progressive by others, results in nothing more than Pious Terrorism.
